Applexion® ultrafiltration membranes can clarify and concentrate a large number of products, including apples, pears, citrus fruits, dates, grapes, kiwis, garlic juice, cherries and berries and high viscosity products.
Traditional juice clarification techniques require large storage capacity and two days in the holding tank before treatment. Ultrafiltration simplifies clarification by replacing the fining process. Micro and ultrafiltration can significantly reduce operating and investment costs by producing clear juice in a single step and in record time.
With the ultrafiltration loop, juice is clarified in two hours instead of two days using traditional techniques. What's more, ultrafiltration eliminates the need for holding tanks, or makes it possible to optimize tank management.
Ultrafiltration also reduces the production cost per liter of clarified juice by 20-50% because it optimizes enzyme consumption by eliminating the use of filtration additives or fining products like gelatin. Lastly, ultrafiltration enhances and regulates the quality of waste and makes effluent treatment easier.
Ceramic or carbon organic membranes and modules from the Kerasep™ and Carbosep® ranges are used for microfiltration, ultrafiltration and nanofiltration. Generally speaking, the pore-sizes are 0.1 to 0.8 µm for microfiltration and 50,000-300,000 Dalton for ultrafiltration.
