The production of industrial liquid sweeteners has indeed seen a formidable expansion in the United States where the equivalent of 8.5 million tons of liquid corn sweeteners are consumed as ingredients for soft drinks and other food products.

An increased demand in industrial sugars inevitably leads to the production of liquid sweeteners, having very high technological standards similar to those derived from starch, and engineered to be cost-competitive.

The production of liquid sugar can also be made from various raw materials, such as sugar beet or sugar cane.

Economic considerations determine which type of raw material could be used in each country.

The Concept for producing Liquid Sugar is based on the following:

  • Crystallization is not the most cost effective method for producing industrial liquid sugars
  • Using crystalline refined sugar in the industry requires significant handling operations at the end-user's plant:
    • Dissolution with high grade water
    • Filtration
    • Pasteurization
  • The capital and operating costs requirements clearly favor using liquid sugar for the same production capacity
  • The optimal capacity of a liquid sugar plant is ideal for the requirements of the soft drinks market, while much larger capacities are needed for a conventional sugar refinery.
