Ozone-promoted reactions , such as the preparation of aldehydes via the ozonolysis of alkenes, are well-known in organic synthesis.
Ozonolysis reactions are a very powerful tool in synthetic chemistry to give access to a broad range of functional groups; ozone reacts chemically with alkenes to give access to either the corresponding aldehydes and alcohols upon reductive work-up or carboxylic acids after oxidative treatment (an interesting example in the use of ozone for the preparation of beta-lactames has recently been published: H. Lu, C. Li J. Org. Lett. 2006 , 8 , 5365) . Ozone-promoted cleavage of alkynes to carboxylic acids and mild oxidation of nitroalkyles to ketones have also been reported.
Novasep Synthesis has implemented ozonolysis capabilities (in stainless steel vessels) in spring 2007, allowing the preparation of chemical intermediates (at multi-Kg scale). Reactors are equipped with an Ozonia® generator. Several ozone-containing processes from large pharmaceutical companies, at low temperatures down to -80 °C, have been successfully demonstrated in 2007 in Novasep Synthesis/Finorga site (near Lyon/France).
Novasep Synthesis is able to offer full chemical route design and development to its customers.
R&D laboratories are equipped via ozonizers to allow full process development activities prior to implementation on larger scale. Furthermore, Novasep Synthesis expertise in safe handling and gas treatment of ozone-containing processes can be put at work for possible implementation at larger production scale, depending on specific needs and API requirements.
These new facilities/capacities reinforce the broad range of services in synthesis already offered by Novasep Synthesis to the life science industries.Access to various substrates
